Meet Our Artists

At Silverbacks Cafe we practice what we preach. From our furniture to our coffee, we support local. When you visit Silverbacks, one of the things that stands out is the stunning artistry displayed throughout the Cafe, from intricately carved wood tables, to paintings on the walls, masks, tapestries, sculptures and photography. This page is dedicated to the incredibly talented locals who have helped to make Silverbacks Cafe more than just a restaurant giving back to the community. It's an experience!

Namwandala Shombo Kibe

After leaving school at the age of 17, Kibe began searching for the meaning of life through art. He travelled to other African countries for the purpose of collecting ancient statues, masks and other artifacts as a means to gain more knowledge of the history and meaning behind each piece. After 22 years of exploring remote villages in Rwanda, Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and others, he has developed his own unique style and meaning for his own creations.

You will find Kibe's talents throughout the Cafe including paintings, tapestries, masks, statues and more. In fact, it was Kibe who turned our bar into the work of art it represents today. We are proud to represent his work.

Tami Loehrs

Our founder, while originally from the United States, is a Rwandan resident and very much a local who calls the land of a thousand hills "home". Her travels throughout Africa with an undeniable connection with animals of all species is apparent in her photography.
